Throwing something away? STOP!! If you live in the Fareham area, please offer your reusable items to other group members. Keep it out of landfill byrecycling it.
Items must be legal and appropriate, and are gifted for free. Items can't be lent, swapped or sold.
From the Freegle site:
Stuff you don't need? Freegle it!Don’t throw it away – give it away on Freegle! You might not need that old sofa or wheelbarrow any more – but there might be someone just round the corner who does. Or if there’s something you’d like, someone nearby might have one.More There are 1,270,987 Freegle members in 330 groups all over the UK. How it worksFreegle is a collection of local groups that allow you to give stuff away when you need to get rid of it but don’t want to throw it in the bin. Or save something from landfill by asking for it; perhaps someone has just what you need that they were about to throw away. For example: - You have a washing machine you don’t need and may need to take to the tip.
- You join your local Freegle group.
- You post an OFFER on the list, seen by everyone who looks on the site or receives messages in their inbox (members get to choose whether to receive all messages or just view online)
OFFER: washing machine (just off High St) Old and noisy but working washing machine available. - Interested members will reply to you privately.
- You choose who you would like to give it to.
- Between you, you arrange for them to come and pick up the washing machine.
- It gets collected.
- You’ve given away your machine with little effort, and you also got to meet someone new from your neighbourhood in the process.
- Someone local to you who needed your unwanted machine can now use it, fix it or use parts for spares.
- It didn’t go into landfill. Great for both you and our planet. Everyone wins!
Likewise, if you need an item you can request one on the list in the same way and if someone has what you’d like they will contact you off-list to offer it. Just find your local group and get freegling! The group moderators will be happy to help you if you need any advice about any part of the above process. All groups are available on Yahoo! Groups, and some can also be used on Facebook and from our site.

Recently, we were sent the Environmental Sustainability Strategy Action Plan Annual Assessment Report by the Council. This is great because it gives local groups like ourselves ownership and input of and into local affairs. It also makes for interesting reading. Now, it will always be the case that environmental issues play second string to economic ones in times of recession. That's life. That's capitalism. However, at least sustainability is somewhere on the agenda. Here are some selected hi... Continue reading...

Another Independent article: George Osborne is not a climate sceptic, the Energy and Climate Change Secretary, Chris Huhne, was obliged to pronounce yesterday, in the face of growing criticism of the Chancellor's commitment to Britain's environmental agenda and in particular to UK plans to combat global warming. Mr Huhne defended the Chancellor against allegations that he showed scant enthusiasm and for the environment in his Autumn Statement this week, and indeed, used language verging on the ... Editorial from the Independent: Abraham Maslow was an American psychologist of the mid-20th century, a scholar of human behaviour generally known for one particular imaginative insight into how people behave: his hierarchy of needs. Sometimes depicted as a pyramid with several layers (pictured) and occasionally referred to as Maslow's hierarchy of values, this is a simple but convincing visualisation of human motives – from the basic, at the bottom, to the more rarefied, at the peak. And the ... Continue reading...
