ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY ACTION PLAN - ANNUAL PROGRESS REPORT

Posted by Jonathan Pearce on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, In : Local issues
Recently, we were sent the Environmental Sustainability Strategy Action Plan Annual Assessment Report by the Council. This is great because it gives local groups like ourselves ownership and input of and into local affairs. It also makes for interesting reading. Now, it will always be the case that environmental issues play second string to economic ones in times of recession. That's life. That's capitalism. However, at least sustainability is somewhere on the agenda.

Here are some selected hi...

Is the Co-Op closing just a coincidence?

Posted by Jonathan Pearce on Monday, November 14, 2011, In : Local issues

Stop press

It seems that there was some misinformation. The reporter from the News did some digging the other day and phoned me. The leaseholders are private and Co-op claim it is because the store is not doing well enough. Apologies for any excited revolutionary activity.

However, the reporter, and myself, are still very suspicious. The Tesco is about to open, the Co-op closes. It seems that the Tesco would be responsible in some way. I imagine Co-op looked at the long term prognosis and said...

New information on Co-Op closure

Posted by Jonathan Pearce on Monday, November 14, 2011, In : Local issues
Apologies fro the delay in getting this post up. It seems that there was some misinformation flying about on the Co-Op closure (it was lucky that in my letter to the Council I was careful to include phrases like "If this is the case" etc).

Please find below an email from the Co-Op and then one from the council (although no one seems to be able to spell my name):

Dear Mr. Pierce,

Further to your recent enquiry, please find below our statement regarding the closure of the store in West Street, Fa...

Tesco Built - Council Raise Co-Op Rent - Co-Op Closes - Tesco Wins

Posted by Jonathan Pearce on Wednesday, November 9, 2011, In : Local issues
The disgusting news came about today that the Council are raising the rents to the Co-Op on West Street in Fareham. And they are not negotiating the terms.

Rather bloody convenient since the Council gave the go ahead to build a Tesco 50m down the road and it is almost finished.

Even more convenient that I tried to disapprove of the planning at consultation stage and was told I would have to turn up to the meeting at 10.30 in the morning on a Tuesday (or similar) - impossible for a teacher. Not ...

Gosport and Fareham transit route ready early next year

The bus route under construction

A £20m rapid bus transit route in Hampshire will be completed early next year, the county council has confirmed.

The Bus Rapid Transit scheme will link Gosport to Fareham along a disused railway line and is being funded by a government grant and the council.

Campaigners against the scheme say it will have a devastating impact on wildlife and have tried to stop it.

Planting and acoustic fencing has been installed on the route to reduce the...
